A personalized and exclusive guided excursion of some of the most amazing byways and off-road, full-size, 4x4 trails this region of the southwest has to offer.
The scenic byways and off-road trails* we decide to navigate will be based upon your needs, skills and regional conditions that exist at the time of your excursion.
Each excursion is limited to you, you and your friends and/or you and your family and an experienced guide and sometimes support staff/staff in training.
Each excursion is limited to the vehicle(s) you/your party drives, up to a maximum of two customer vehicles per excursion. All drivers/passengers must have access to their own safety restraints (seat belts, car-seats). The lead guide will and support staff may have their own vehicles.
Our experienced guide will safely lead you to and through an off-road trail system.
Your guide will support and assist you with successfully navigating off-road features such as rocks, ruts, ledges, holes, dry washes, standing or moving water and hills.
Your guide will also teach you how and when to use your vehicle's four-wheel drive system such as 4-High, 4-Low and locking differentials if equipped.
We will communicate frequently, face/face and with walkie-talkies. You will also be given the opportunity to take the lead on appropriate sections of trails.
If you are new to four-wheeling and/or to this region of Southwest Utah an experienced guide can help you navigate the terrain and the trail system successfully and safely.
Regional 4x4 trails rarely have signage and frequently transition from public to private roads and/or from full-size trails to trails that are intended for ATV/Side x Side use only; your guide will ensure you remain on the correct trail system.
Many private and all rental vehicles do not carry recovery gear, other than a spare tire. Although we do not anticipate needing recovery gear and/or emergency supplies, our guide(s) will have them if needed.
Our lead guide will also have the ability to communicate through satellite devices in the event of an urgent circumstance, the lead guide's vehicle will also be tracked via satellite services. As we travel throughout the day, cell phone signal and strength will vary from strong to none.
The off-road trails* we decide to navigate will be based upon your needs, skills and the regional conditions that exist at the time of your excursion. The off-road trails we tour are approved for use by full-size vehicles. These types of trails are often referred to as National Forest or BLM access roads. We'll travel through federal, state and private property as legally permitted. We'll respect public and private lands and tread lightly. There are several examples of the type of roads/trails we'll travel on (and the sights we'll see) located at the bottom of our home page in the photo gallery.
*The off-road trails we travel on will start at a beginner level and at times transition to a beginning>intermediate level (from a 1-3). There will NOT be any extreme rock crawling. There will be ruts, rocks and ledges on the off-road trails we drive. It will be bumpy. There will be hills to ascend/descend. The dirt-road conditions may be dusty, wet and/or have mud puddles. At times, the road will be narrow and some road deterioration may exist.
You will drive your own capable full-size 4x4, or one that you've rented.
If you'd ever prefer the guide to drive your vehicle through a small section of challenging terrain, we can provide that service.
Your guide will and support staff may drive their own vehicle(s).
You'll drive your own capable, full-size 4x4 or a rented one, preferably from Black Rock Rentals as their off-road vehicles have been field tested, are well-maintained, dependable and available at a competitive rate.
A licensed and street legal vehicle designed to transport multiple people safely on highways, streets, roads and byways. A vehicle also designed to be driven on 4x4 off-road trails, vehicles such as a: Jeep/Bronco/Forerunner, Tacoma/Ranger/ZR2, etc.
This excursion is not intended for large vehicles or for ATVs, Side x Sides, etc. There are several reputable outfitters in the area that provide group-tours and/or an exhilarating OHV experience, such as Southern Utah Adventure Center.
A vehicle that has been designed and/or modified for off-road 4x4 activity, this includes an off-road shock/suspension package, adequate ground clearance (at least 15 inch rims and 9+ inches of ground clearance) and all-terrain or mud-terrain tires (not all-weather tires) and a spare.
We'll spend a minimum of 6 hours navigating off-road terrain; i.e. dirt roads/dirt trails, in short, we'll have six hours of "dirt time". We may spend up to an additional 2+ hours traveling to/from meeting places, and taking photo, snack and potty breaks, etc.
Please plan on a full-day, it may prove unwise to make formal plans for the same evening as your excursion. Also, you may be tired afterwards, off-roading is a steady workout, both physically and mentally.
We'll meet at or near the trailhead. In the fall, winter and spring, the trailhead will be within 15-30 minutes of the downtown St. George area.
During the summer, the meeting location may be in the Cedar City area, 45-60 minutes north of St. George.
We'll typically meet at a gas station near the trailhead to ensure all vehicles have a full tank of gas, to use the restroom, and to purchase any last-minute conveniences.
The meeting location will be communicated to you in advance of your excursion. Meeting locations vary/change according to your needs, regional weather and trail conditions.
In the fall, winter and spring, our excursions will end in the St. George, Hurricane, Virgin or Springdale area.
In the summer our excursions will also end in the areas listed above or in Cedar City.
Please bring a portable lunch, and your favorite drinks/snacks. We'll provide you with a soft-cooler and ice-pack for your vehicle and we'll have extra drinks, snacks and coolers/ice as well.
Sometimes we'll be near a gas station/convenience store or a campground style pit toilet and sometimes we'll need to take care of business in the great outdoors. We'll have a hygienic bathroom kit as well as a bucket/toilet seat type of set-up or a shovel to bury your waste, and we won't be leaving any TP behind (pun intended).
Privacy can be created with your vehicle's doors, or by tucking behind nearby trees, shrubs, boulders, ravines, etc. Your privacy will be respected; we can put some distance between our vehicles to assist with that.
Typically, we will not be off-roading and traveling away from amenities until 10:00 a.m. or later; ideally, you'll be able to take care of all of your serious business before we're on the trail. But of course we understand, sh*t happens. ; )
It is strongly recommended that you give special consideration to the drinks/meals you consume the night before and the morning of your excursion.
Dogs are welcome, as long as you properly supervise and clean up after them. We will have plenty of extra water.
Our lead guide will have the ability to communicate through satellite devices in the event of an urgent circumstance, the lead guide's vehicle will also be tracked via satellite services. As we travel throughout the day, cell phone signal and strength will vary from strong to none.
Send us an email first, so we can go over your needs and coordinate/confirm reservations and learn about your off-road vehicle or your rental. Once everything is squared away and agreed upon, we'll send you an email with a link to make a secure payment online through GoDaddy.
Full refunds (less a 3% processing fee) are given when provided at least 30 days cancellation notice and in the event of severe weather across the entire region on the day of your scheduled excursion.
